McComb’s 4th Annual
SUSAN G KOMEN RACE FOR THE CURE
Hearthside Team

On Saturday, September 24th, 41 Hearthside Food Solutions employees from Hearthside’s McComb manufacturing facility, some with their babies in tow, joined together to walk, run, and raise awareness for breast cancer in the annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure.

Setting the Pace

Susan G. Komen is the world’s largest breast cancer organization, funding more breast cancer research than any other nonprofit, providing real-time help to those people and families facing this disease. Breast cancer touches every community. However, the breast cancer death rate for Northwest Ohio is six percent higher than the national breast cancer death rate. These numbers illustrate why Susan G. Komen is here and why local families, groups, and businesses, such as Hearthside, are ready and willing to help support this cause.

Events in Advance of the Race

Prior to the Race for the Cure event, two of the team’s activity leaders held various fundraising events at the McComb facility to raise money for this great cause: T-shirt sales, “Blue Jean Fridays,” and team fundraising. The fundraising activities helped pay for all 41 employees’ registration and t-shirt costs, as well as raising almost $1,500 for Susan G. Komen.

Pink Sponsorship

In addition to those direct fundraising donations, Hearthside Foods was actually a “Pink Sponsor” of the 4th Annual Findlay Race for the Cure this year. The McComb plant donation was used to help make the event happen. With this sponsorship, Hearthside received recognition on the Race sponsor website, newsletter, race day materials, and the Hearthside name on race t-shirts, posters, and entry forms, adding to our team spirit as we helped do our small part in a Race for the Cure.

The event was a great success! Hearthside Food Solutions McComb helped raise awareness, raise money and participate in our community in a meaningful way. In total, we gave Susan G. Komen nearly $3,000. Our entire team felt rewarded for our efforts and the time we invested in our community.
