The Hearthside Story

The Hearthside story is a blend of the old and the new. Hearthside was formed in 2009 — with a 70 year history in the baking industry and a legacy of value. Hearthside’s CEO and co-founder, Rich Scalise, saw a need in the market for a new kind of contract manufacturer. As a 30 year veteran of the food industry, he had been a contract manufacturer customer and was aware of both the benefits and the challenges that they present to premier brands.

Rich believed the industry was ready for something new. In 2009, along with Wind Point Partners, Rich formed Hearthside Food Solutions LLC. On the day it launched, the company had four manufacturing plants and over 2,000 employees. By 2010 the company had more than doubled in size. Today Hearthside has 12 manufacturing plants spanning five states and employs over 5,000 full-time employees.

From the very first day, the Hearthside mission was clear. If you walk in any of our plants you will likely see it on the walls and hear it in the halls. Our mission is to be faster, more flexible, and to add more value for our customers. The entire organization is completely focused on delivering on that mission every day. What was good enough last month or last year is simply not adequate for tomorrow. It’s what our customers expect – and it’s what we continue to deliver every day.
